A.J. Allmendinger Reveals Drug Test Showed a Stimulant: NASCAR Fan View

On July 11, A.J. Allmendinger's manager ended the silence about his suspension from NASCAR and failed drug test. She admitted that the test showed a stimulant was used but did not reveal the exact type of drug. I think NASCAR will continue its secrecy about this information unless Allmendinger decides to share it with the public.

    Admitting the Truth

A.J. Allmendinger's manager, Tara Ragan, has revealed that NASCAR's random drug test showed a positive result for a "stimulant." However, she added, "He has no idea why the first test was positive, and he has never knowingly taken any prohibited substance." Her statement comes a day after Allmendinger informed fans that he had asked NASCAR to test his "B" sample and emphasized he "would never knowingly take a prohibited drug."

Allmendinger insists that he is not aware of how the "A" sample could have tested positive. His manager has pointed out that they are gathering his over-the-counter medications to prove his innocence. Oddly, in March 2012, A.J. Allmendinger became the spokesperson for the energy drink "Fuel in a Bottle" and was credited with having a "high-energy style"

    Comparisons to Mayfield Increase

Unfortunately, the statement from Allmendinger's manager has only intensified speculation among fans about the nature of the positive test result. It is not fair to prosecute a driver before the test results for his second sample have been revealed. Despite the limited information in this case and possibility he may be cleared, he continues to be compared to Jeremy Mayfield. The type of stimulant has not been released, but fans are incorrectly assuming that it could have been an amphetamine because it falls into this category. Since Mayfield tested positive for the stimulant methamphetamine, the comparisons continue.

    Possible Outcomes

A.J. Allmendinger's future in NASCAR has two possible outcomes at this point. If his "B" sample is positive, then his suspension becomes permanent. However, NASCAR allows for a rehabilitation program to allow drivers to return. I think he would still lose his ride with Penske Racing in this scenario. The second outcome is a negative "B" sample that means Allmendinger can return to the track.
