    Islas Canarias Santa Pro Ends in a Pires Victory: Fan View

    The Islas Canarias Santa Pro came to an exciting conclusion on Friday, October 26, 2012 in Lanzarote. The day's surfing action started early in the morning and continued until late in the day. All the while, the remaining surfers valiantly battled against each other in challenging conditions for valuable points and laurels. Here's a quick peek at the final results:

    Quarterfinals Results

    The highest surf heat score of the quarterfinals was earned by Willian Cardoso (BRA) during his Heat 3 matchup against Beyrick De Vries (ZAF). Willian Cardoso took control of the exchange early on and never let it go. He won the matchup with 15.33 points. His best waves were an 8 point ride and a 7.33 point ride. Beyrick de Vries completed the heat with a modest 7.27 points.

    The 2nd highest surf heat score of the quarterfinals was produced by Tiago Pires (PRT) during his Heat 4 matchup against Marc Lacomare (FRA). Tiago Pires won the surf heat with 14.17 points after posting a 6 point ride and an 8.17 point ride. Although Pires ultimately managed to keep the lead throughout the exchange, Marc Lacomare did not give up easily. He completed the surf heat with 13.54 points.

    Semifinals Results

    The semifinals began with a great exchange between Gabe Kling (USA) and Nathaniel Curran (USA). Nathaniel Curran started the heat with an early lead. He didn't hold onto it for long though. Gabe Kling managed to fire off a 7.83 point ride. It was enough to push him to the top of the scoreboard. In the waning moments of the surf heat, Kling solidified his position by posting a 9.67 point ride. He won the surf heat with 17.50 points.

    Heat 2 of the semifinals was an electrifying matchup between Tiago Pires (PRT) and Willian Cardoso (BRA). If you ask me, Tiago Pires was on fire throughout the entire surf heat. His surfing prowess left me awestruck. His best three performances resulted in an 8.13 point ride, a 9.83 point ride and a 9.90 point ride. He won the surf heat with an impressive 19.73 points.

    Final Results

    The final matchup was between Gabe Kling (USA) and Tiago Pires (PRT). Both men clearly gave it their all. Unfortunately for Gabe Kling, he just wasn't able to reproduce his earlier success. His best maneuvers resulted in a 6.80 point ride and a 7.67 point ride. Tiago Pires answered back with an 8.50 point ride and an 8.03 point ride. He won the surf heat with 16.53 points. As a result of his performance, Pires walked away with a $25,000 prize purse and an additional 3,500 points.
