NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen was fined $5,000 by the NHL on Wednesday for slashing Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal on Tuesday night.

Nielsen was assessed a minor penalty for slashing in the third period of New York's 6-1 home victory.
