Iona 79, Loyola-Maryland 71

Senior guard Lamont Jones struggled with his shot but repeatedly found his way to the free-throw line, lifting Iona over Loyola-Maryland in a battle between two of the top teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Jones scored a game-high 23 points to help the visiting Gaels beat the Greyhounds 79-71 on Sunday at Reitz Arena.

Jones made 6 of 15 field-goal attempts and went 0 of 3 from beyond the arc, but he made 11 of 12 free throws.

Jones led four players who scored in double figures for the Gaels (14-7, 8-2 MAAC), who trail first-place Niagara by one game going into Thursday's matchup with the Purple Eagles. Junior guard Sean Armand scored 14 points, junior guard Tre Bowman scored 11 points and sophomore forward David Laury had 10 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots for Iona.

Junior guard Dylon Cormier had 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Greyhounds (15-7, 7-3), who had won three in a row and six of seven. Senior guard Robert Olson scored 14 points. Junior forward Jordan Latham had 11.
