Invicta FC Sponsors Race Car: Fan's Look

Yahoo Contributor Network

Checking to see what's new in the Invicta FC world, I noticed an interesting photo (on the Invicta Fighting Championships Facebook page) of a race car with the Invicta FC logo emblazoned on the hood and along the side of a hot, Motor Sport simulations Impala.

The caption under the photo says, "Skull Geek Racing team will be competing in the iracing.com World Tour Oct 6 in the Invicta FC Impala. Thank you for your support."

On the same day, the fighters of Invicta FC are lighting up the cage with their third event on October 6th in Kansas City, Kansas.

iRacing and MMA

Shannon Knapp and Janet Martin are the driving force behind the wheel of Invicta FC. As a way to generate more interest in Invicta, women cage-fighters and MMA, Invicta partnered with the Skull Geek Racing team on the iRacing.com platform.

From the iRacing website FAQs: "iRacing is a service for real-world racers and racing enthusiasts, as well as a platform for a new branch of global motorsport - known as internet racing - which is the sport of real-time, online racing."

This looks like an interesting--and fun--move for the Invicta FC team.

Race car enthusiasts are as passionate about their sport as MMA fans are about theirs. I don't know much about racing except that it's fun to watch. I had the opportunity to sit in a Porsche racing around a track in New Hampshire. I made it through one lap and got severe motion sickness. I prefer sitting in the stands.

Invicta FC 3 Fight Card Update

Speaking of physical constraints, UFC fighters are dropping like dominoes with injuries suffered during training or from crashing into a car on a motorbike (Jose Aldo), I decided to check in to see if the women of Invicta have made any changes to their fight roster.

Leslie Smith (3-2-1) will now face Kim Connor-Hamby (4-0-0). Smith's former opponent, Cat Zingano, has moved to Strikeforce to face Brazilian fighter, Amanda Nunes on September 29th, starting at 10 pm PT/ET.

A match between two 145ers, Katalina Malungahu (2-0-0) vs Ediane Gomes (8-2-0), has been added to the bottom of the list of fighters. At first glance, this seems like a lop-sided match-up with Gomes having much more MMA fight experience than Malungahu.

Ronda Rousey vs Ediane Gomes

In Ronda Rousey's first professional MMA fight, she only needed 28 seconds to bully BJJ black belt, Ediane Gomes. Here's "Ronda Rousey vs Ediane Gomes - Luta completa - KOTC" on video

Katalina Malungahu

This is how Malungahu describes herself on her Facebook page: "Was born in the beautiful Kingdom of Tonga. Proud Mommy to 3 Ninjas. I'm a part of the best sport in history, MMA. Fighting out of Xtreme Couture."

Katalina Malungahu, age 31, sounds like the perfect warrior princess to drive that souped up Impala around a simulated race track.

As of right now, 14 fights are scheduled for the Invicta FC event that will be streamed live starting at 6 pm CT / 7 pm ET.
