Injury Wrap: Eagles backfield down to two

Darren Sproles is still a force when he touches the ball

The season gets later, the fantasy games get more important. Here’s our look around the Week 12 injury and status landscape.

• The Philadelphia backfield has been a mess all year, and Week 12 is no different. Let’s start with Ryan Mathews (knee), who missed the full practice week and isn’t expected to play Monday against Green Bay. Scratch him off. Darren Sproles (rib) was active at practice and figures to go, sharing most of the work with rookie Wendell Smallwood.

• Another week of Patriot games on the injury report. Tom Brady will play through his knee injury, that’s one assumption we can make. Rob Gronkowski (lung) is a game-time call, at best, and Martellus Bennett (ankle/shoulder) is also dinged up. Julian Edelman (foot) is like Brady — usually on the injury report, but playing through it. If you need a Hail Mary play against the Jets, there’s WR Malcolm Mitchell.

• We know Mike Gillislee (hamstring) won’t go against Jacksonville. It sounds like LeSean McCoy (thumb) will play, no matter than he’s not 100 percent. There’s a shot Sammy Watkins (foot) will return (he’s been activated off the reserve list), but there’s no chance I’d use him until we see something on the field. Robert Woods (foot) is out, but Charles Clay (back) should be able to go.

• Todd Gurley (illness) missed Friday’s practice, though he’s not listed on the injury report. Either way, check in with him before Sunday’s start at New Orleans.

• Jay Ajayi gets the Niners, the cushiest of draws, but he’ll have to deal without two key OL starters — Branden Albert and Mike Pouncey. The Dolphins aren’t sure about Laremy Tunsil (shoulder), either. Jarvis Landry is expected to play through a sore shoulder.

• You probably moved on from Michael Floyd a while ago; either way, he might not go at Atlanta. He’s dealing with a balky hamstring and missed the last two days of practice. It’s not easy to trust John Brown or J.J. Nelson either — Carson Palmer has been that bad — but you might be pressed in that direction.

• Jeremy Maclin (groin) missed a full week of practice and isn’t going to play. There’s no reason to chase the other wideouts at Denver.

• Tevin Coleman (hamstring) is off the injury report completely; he’ll be unleashed in some role against Arizona. TE Jacob Tamme is out for the year, pushing Austin Hooper to more snaps.

• Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) had a full practice Friday and might be ready for some sort of role against the Seahawks.

• It’s hard for me to imagine A.J. Green (hamstring) playing again this year, but apparently it’s still on the table. We know he won’t go at Baltimore. If you needed a Cincinnati WR pickup, Tyler Boyd is my preference. RB Rex Burkhead figures to assume some of the Gio Bernard role.

• Mark Ingram was active at practice but still needs to pass concussion protocol. Tim Hightower is around to take carries, either way. New Orleans plays its best ball at home, obviously, but the Rams defense is no pushover.

• Travis Benjamin (knee) was active at practice, though he remains questionable on the injury report.

• Good luck to the Bears, who are down to No. 3 quarterback Matt Barkley. Fire up the Tennessee defense. Eddie Royal (toe) wasn’t able to practice.

• Will Fuller’s knee must be feeling a lot better; he’s no longer on the injury report.

• Julius Thomas (back) won’t play at Buffalo, and T.J. Yeldon (ankle) missed the full week of practice. It’s not easy to feel confident about Chris Ivory, but it’s his backfield now.

• Josh McCown is set to start again for Cleveland. Gary Barnidge owners, take heart.

• Luke Kuechly (post concussion) won’t play at Oakland. It’s never easy to trust Raiders RB Latavius Murray, but this boost his value a little bit. Of course, Murray is also playing through a sore ankle, as is teammate Michael Crabtree.
