This isn't a recording: the Lions could soon be in the market for help at running back with injuries piling up at that position for the third consecutive year.
Stephon Green injured his knee in Monday's practice and joined the team's top two tailbacks -- Jahvid Best and Mikel Leshoure -- on the sideline. That leaves only veteran Kevin Smith, who slimmed down and appears to have more zip in camp but has a lengthy injury history of his own.
The Lions kicked the tires on free agent Ryan Grant in May. Former Colts running back Joseph Addai, released by the Patriots before passing the conditioning test in July, and former Bengals running back Cedric Benson are veterans the team could consider with the preseason schedule beginning this week at Ford Field against the Browns.
The Lions also were without wide receiver Ryan Broyles for most of Monday's practice. The second-round pick left the field and saddled ice on either side of his left knee.
