Injured Cardinal Ware back on court dunking

The SportsXchange

Less than six months after suffering a gruesome injury in the NCAA Tournament, Louisville's Kevin Ware was back on the basketball court dunking a basketball.

Just three days after reports raised hope that Ware could be back on the court before Halloween, a video surfaced on the Internet of Ware dunking.

Cardinals' teammate Chris Jones posted the video on his Instagram account. Ware does not appear to be favoring his right leg.

The 6-foot-4 guard fractured his right leg in two places during the Cardinals' Elite Eight win over Duke on March 31. The injury left coach Rick Pitino and Ware's teammates in shock, tears running down their faces.

He had surgery, the leg was reset and a rod was inserted into his right tibia. No one -- except Ware -- was sure when, or if, he would play again. Ware vowed to be back on the court as soon as possible.

And it seems that time has arrived.

"Latest x-rays for Louisville G Kevin Ware's rt leg show good healing," Senior Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations and Sports Information Director Kenny Klein tweeted on Friday. "He's expected to resume basketball activities in about 4 weeks."

Pitino also said recently Ware would not be returning for a while..

"This is a very serious injury," Pitino told SI.com "We're going to take our time with him. I'm not saying we are going to redshirt him, but we are going to take our time."

After Ware was injured, the Cardinals rallied around their injured teammate to win the national championship.
