Infante accepts offer from Royals

The Kansas City Royals reached agreement with free agent infielder Omar Infante on a four-year, $30 million contract, according to reports Friday.

The deal is contingent on Infante passing a physical.

The 31-year-old Infante attracted interest from the New York Yankees, but their contract offer fell short of the deal with the Royals, ESPN reported.

In 118 games this past season for the Detroit Tigers, Infante hit .318 with 10 home runs and 51 RBIs. He is a career .279 hitter with 74 home runs and 421 RBIs.

The 12-year veteran provides versatility to the Royals. He is primarly a second baseman but also can play shortstop and third base.
