Time is running out:

IndyCar places Sato on probation

The SportsXchange

IndyCar officials placed driver Takuma Sato on probation for the next five races for violating a rule during the IZOD IndyCar Series event July 7 at Pocono Raceway.

Sato violated Rule, which states that "a driver must not engage in reckless, careless and/or overly aggressive actions or unsportsmanlike behavior toward other members." Sato's car made avoidable contact with Ryan Hunter-Reay's car while entering pit lane on Lap 61 of the 160-lap race.

The probation period lasts through IZOD IndyCar Series event Sept. 1 at Baltimore.

Sato can appeal the probation.
