Indians trade for Aviles, Gomes

The Cleveland Indians acquired infielder Mike Aviles and catcher/infielder Yan Gomes from the Toronto Blue Jays for right-handed pitcher Esmil Rogers, the Indians announced Saturday.

Aviles batted .250 with 13 home runs and 60 RBI in 136 games last season for the Boston Red Sox. He was traded from Boston to Toronto two weeks ago.

Gomes batted .204 with four homers and 13 RBI in 43 games with Toronto. He spent the majority of the season in Class AAA Las Vegas.

Rogers was 3-3 with a 4.69 ERA in 78 2/3 innings combined with the Colorado Rockies and Indians.
