The Cleveland Indians released Daisuke Matsuzaka from his contract, the team announced Sunday, but the veteran right-handed pitcher might soon be back with the organization.
According to multiple media reports, the Indians were negotiating with Matsuzaka in attempt to get him to open the season with Triple-A Columbus.
The Indians signed Matsuzaka, 32, on Feb. 13. In four spring appearances, he pitched 8.0 innings, yielding two runs on 10 hits and one walk, while striking out three.
He was 1-7 with an 8.28 ERA in 11 starts for the Boston Red Sox last season.
