The Cleveland Indians placed Asdrubal Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained right quadriceps, leaving the team without their All-Star shortstop for at least the next few weeks.
Shortstop Juan Diaz was promoted from Triple-A Columbus to a bench spot, with Mike Aviles taking over at shortstop.
Cabrera's pulled up before reaching first base on a fifth-inning groundout, and nearly tumbled over the base as pain shot through his leg. He needed to be helped off the field. He has dealt with the quad injury since late April.
In 53 games this season, Cabrera is batting .254 with five home runs, 18 doubles and 25 RBIs.
