Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Chris Perez was found guilty of misdemeanor drug abuse Tuesday after withdrawing his original not guilty plea.

Perez, who is participating in the Major League Baseball drug treatment program, was sentenced by the Rocky River Municipal Court to one year's probation and a $250 file. Judge Brian Hagen also ordered him to speak to students about drugs.

In early June, Perez's wife Melanie accepted two packages that reportedly contained marijuana and were addressed to the family dog. Investigators reported that Perez admitted to drug enforcement agents that he had marijuana for personal use and directed them towards its location.

A criminal case against Melanie Perez is pending. She is expected to face a $50 fine and not have to serve probation as long as she passes a drug test.

Perez has a 5-2 record entering Tuesday, with a 3.15 ERA and 21 saves in 25 opportunities.
