The Cleveland Indians activated right-hander Brett Myers from the 60-day disabled list and then released him on Thursday.
Myers has not pitched since April after suffering an elbow injury.
The 33-year-old appeared in four games for the Indians and made three starts this season, going 0-3 with an 8.02 ERA and giving up 19 runs in 21 1/3 innings. His last start was April 19.
Myers signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Indians after working as a reliever last year for the Chicago White Sox. He posted a 3-8 record with 19 saves and had a 3.31 ERA in 70 games for the White Sox.
In 12 major league seasons, Myers has a 97-96 record with 40 saves and a 4.25 ERA.
