Indians closer Perez goes on DL

The Cleveland Indians placed closer Chris Perez on the 15-day disabled list Monday with right shoulder soreness.

The club recalled left-handed pitcher Nick Hagadone from Class AAA Columbus to take Perez's spot on the roster.

Perez was injured in the ninth inning of Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox. He was scheduled to have an MRI on Monday.

Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters that Vinnie Pestano will serve as closer while Perez is out. Pestano has a 5.25 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP in 12 innings.

Perez is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA and six saves in 17 relief appearances this year.

It is Hagadone's third stint with Cleveland this year. He has a 7.20 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He is 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA in seven games with Columbus.
