The Cleveland Indians activated 42-year-old Jason Giambi from the disabled list on Friday.
Giambi, signed by the Indians on Feb. 9, was added to major-league roster on March 25 but then placed on the DL with a lower back strain.
The veteran is expected to play a reserve role and serve as a part-time designated hitter for the Indians.
In other moves, Cleveland recalled left-hander Nick Hagadone from triple-A Columbus, placed right-hander Matt Albers on the paternity list and optioned right-hander Corey Kluber to Columbus.
Hagadone hadn't given up a run in two appearances for Columbus.
