The Cleveland Indians avoided aribtration with backup catcher Lou Marson, signing him to a one-year, $1 million deal. Marson, 27, was eligible for arbitration for the first time in his five-year career in the major leagues. He's expected to continue to back up starter Carlos Santana this year. Last season, Marson played in 70 games and hit .226 with no homers and 13 RBI. His average was slightly higher than his career mark of .220.
