Indians acquire McDonald from Pirates

The Cleveland Indians announced they acquired infielder John McDonald from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

McDonald, 38, spent his first six Major League seasons with the Indians. He played in 16 games for the Pirates this season, mostly at shortstop. He's hitting .065 with no homers in 2013.

He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 15 with injuries to his lower back and right elbow. McDonald is rehabbing at Pittsburgh's Triple-A Indianapolis club.

To make room on thes 40-man roster, pitcher Brett Myers was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. He has been on the disabled list since April 20 with right elbow inflammation.
