Indians 5, Mariners 4
CLEVELAND -- For the second day in a row the Cleveland Indians beat the Seattle Mariners in walk-off fashion.
Jason Kipnis scored from third on a fielder's choice grounder to shortstop in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Indians beat the Mariners, 5-4, on Saturday.
Cleveland won Friday night's game, 6-3, on a three-run home run by Kipnis in the 10th inning.
Kipnis led off the bottom of the ninth on Saturday with a single off loser Oliver Perez (1-1). Asdrubal Cabrera then bounced a double off the left field wall, sending Kipnis to third.
Nick Swisher was intentionally walked to load the bases with none out.
Yoervis Medina relieved Perez, and Reynolds grounded to shortstop Brendan Ryan, who made a diving stop, but his throw home was not in time to retire Kipnis, who scored the winning run.
The Indians were one out from a 4-2 victory when Raul Ibanez and Justin Smoak hit back-to-back home runs off Cleveland closer Chris Perez with two out in the ninth inning to tie it, 4-4.
Ironically Perez's blown save allowed him to pick up the win and he is 2-0.
Cleveland starter Zach McAllister held Seattle to two runs on six hits and would have seen his record improve to 4-3 had Perez's second blown save of the season in eight chances.
Reynolds had an RBI single in the first inning and a home run in the fifth as Cleveland won for the 16th time in 20 games since April 28.
Left-hander Joe Saunders, who does not fare well on the road, started for the Mariners. He came into the game with a record of 3-0 and an 0.94 ERA in four starts at Safeco Field this year, but was 0-4 with a 12.54 ERA on the road.
Saunders struggled again away from home, allowing four runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings as his record fell to 3-5.
The Indians took an 1-0 against Saunders in the first inning. With two out and nobody on base, Cabrera singled and Swisher walked. Reynolds followed with a single, driving in Cabrera lead.
Saunders held Cleveland scoreless for the next three innings, but in the fifth inning Reynolds got to Saunders again.
With two out in the fifth, Reynolds hit his 12th home run of the season into the left field bleachers to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.
Reynolds is tied for the AL lead in home runs with Robinson Cano of the Yankees, who hit two on Saturday, and Edwin Encarnacion of Toronto, who hit one in the same game at Yankee Stadium.
The Indians extended their lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning, which began with a double by Mike Aviles and a single by Yan Gomes. Drew Stubbs' sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third.
Aviles scored when Michael Bourn grounded to shortstop Brendan Ryan, who threw home, but too late to get Aviles. Kipnis followed that with an RBI single, scoring Gomes and giving the Indians a 4-0 lead.
McAllister, who came into the game with a 7.20 ERA in three career starts against the Mariners, held Seattle scoreless on four hits through seven innings.
In the eighth, Smoak led off with a double off the left field wall. McAllister retired the next hitter, but the light-hitting Ryan hit a 1-and-2 pitch into the left field bleachers for his first home run since Sept. 23, 2012.
Ryan's home run cut the Cleveland lead to 4-2 and sent McAllister to the showers. Perez retired the first two batters in the ninth, but then Ibanez and Smoak hit their home runs to tie it.
