Indianapolis Colts Lose Two Players to Injury Already: Fan's Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

Training camp started for the Indianapolis Colts just three days ago and already the team is fighting the injury bug. The team has been struck by injury bug heavily the last few seasons. Most notably, the loss of Peyton Manning led to a 2-14 season and put the team in the position they're in right now.

In the early training camp practices, two players off the 90 man roster are already out for the season after suffering ACL knee injuries. Most scary for fans is the fact that both players sustained serious injuries to their knees for the second time in their short careers.

First, offensive guard/tackle Ben Ijalana suffered an injury to the same knee that caused him to miss all of last year, his rookie season. As a fan, I had high expectation for Ijalana this year. He was supposed to be fully recovered and I had hope that the former second round draft pick could step in on a remade offensive line that will be heavily depended upon to protect the new franchise quarterback. The early success of Andrew Luck and the offense will heavily rely on the play of the offensive line. Ijalana's loss will test the depth of the group and is just another poor mark on Bill Polian's draft record with the team. Failure's in the draft like Ijalana are what caused the team to play so poorly in the absence of Manning.

The loss of linebacker AJ Edds will be hurt, but is one the team is able to overcome. Edds just joined the roster last season after injuries depleted the linebacking corps. Many fans will be unaware of who he was and know much of what his role was expected to be on this team. Edds' loss will hurt the depth of the team, but will give the rest of the players in training camp a chance to prove themselves to the new coaching staff.
