ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Uncharacteristic struggles in the second period hurt the Chicago Wolves as a stretch of two bad minutes made the difference in a 2-1 loss to the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

The second is on average the most productive period for Chicago this season, but the Wolves (29-17-4-2) could not recover after surrendering two goals in the span of 1:33.

Center Brandon Pirri kicked off the scoring for Rockford (27-21-4-2) with a backhand redirect behind Wolves goaltender and fellow American Hockey League All-Star Jake Allen at 13:55.

IceHogs left winger Garret Ross followed with a power-play goal at 15:28 for a 2-0 lead, giving Rockford the momentum going into the final period.

The Wolves responded 7:06 into the third period to cut the IceHogs' lead to 2-1 as left winger Chris Porter combined with right winger Mark Mancari and defenseman Evan Oberg on a tic-tac-toe play.

Chicago pressured Rockford in the third period, firing a flurry of shots at IceHogs goaltender Jason LaBarbera, but was unable to find the equalizer.

LaBarbera (9-6-2) finished with 21 saves and Allen (22-12-2) had 30.
