  • Juventus fell to Everton in penalty kicks in its opening game, with American goalkeeper Tim Howard coming up with a big save to preserve the 6-5 PK edge after a 1-1 draw.

  • A youthful Galaxy side fell to Real Madrid 3-1, but forward Jose Villarreal scored a highlight-reel goal from long range to provide a highlight for the MLS side.

  • Both teams are gunning for third consecutive league titles this season, with the Galaxy winning the last two MLS Cups and Juventus capturing the last two Serie A Scudettos.

  • The Galaxy should have more firepower available for the match, with Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez missing out against Real Madrid because of their involvement in the MLS All-Star Game and Robbie Keane sitting out because of a hip injury. All three could feature against Juventus.

  • Galaxy goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini began his career in his native Italy before moving to Chelsea.

  • Regardless of the outcome, both teams will make their way to Miami for the final games of the ICC. The winner will play in the fifth-place game, while the loser will try to salvage a seventh-place finish and avoid coming in last. Valencia and Inter Milan are the other teams in the losers' bracket.
