Hummels interested in Barcelona move

Mats Hummels has admitted he would be interested in a move to Barcelona if the club approaches Borussia Dortmund for his services.

The center back, who began his career with Bayern Munich, is one of a number of central defenders believed to be on the Blaugrana's radar, with new boss Gerardo Martino eager to sure up a defense that looked vulnerable at times last term.

"I don't have a career plan and I will never have one," he told schwatzgelb.com. "Of Course Barca is one of those clubs that is interesting for a football player. But because a lot of players don't deal openly with stuff like that, statements like 'this club is interesting' are directly misinterpreted into: He wants to go there. It is an interesting, fascinating club, nothing more."

The 24-year-old then gave an honest assessment of Dortmund's decision not to pursue marquee signings in the transfer market and says they are still overlooked when players come to choosing between Europe's top clubs.

"That is the right way and it is realistic. If a player gets an offer from Bayern, Barca, Real and Dortmund, the chances for us are still the smallest.

"But I think our new players, like Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] in the defense, can surprise a lot of people. We did a good job on the transfer market again."

Hummels will be part of a Dortmund side who will do battle with Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup on Saturday.
