In a recent article published by ABC News, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan was identified as one of the seven worst celebrity dads. The statement cited a 2008 photo of him rubbing suntan lotion on his daughter Brooke's rear, as well as a 2010 Def Jam Rapster commercial that revealed Hogan flashing the camera in front of his daughter. Recently, Hogan was collared up in controversy again, when he retweeted an inappropriate comment on his Twitter account that a supporter sent him. Among the other bad celebrity dad's tagged on the list were Bobby Brown, Joe Jackson and Michael Lohan. Despite the article, I conclude designating Hulk Hogan a "bad" father is going a bit too far.
One source that ABC News mentioned in their report was the photo of the Hulkster rubbing suntan lotion of his daughter's bottom. What kind of neurotic and perverted world do we live in when a father cannot protect his daughter against skin cancer? One must also remember that the Hogan family lived on the beach all their lives. It was probably common practice for Hulk to place lotion on his daughter from the time she was a little girl. This is a perfect example of warped minds reshaping an innocent act to seem perverted.
Secondly, the incident regarding the Def Jam Rapster commercial. In the viral video, the camera blurs out Hogan's private area, making it appear like the former champion was flashing the camera. But its been widely published that Hogan was wearing underwear and did not actually flash the camera. Furthermore, it should be noted that fake viral videos are all the rage nowadays. I wouldn't be stunned to learn that the flashing and the ensuing "shocking" video was merely a part of a marketing scheme.
Lastly, Hulk Hogan is 58 years old. A fan on Twitter asked him to retweet something about his daughter. I highly doubt Hulk knew what the inappropriate slang word meant. He's not young and connected. I am sure it was an innocent misinterpretation on his part.
As a long time supporter of Hulk Hogan, I take offense to him being named one of the seven worst celebrity dads. In fact, when compared to the other men on the list, like Woody Allen and John Phillips, Hulk Hogan is a saint. I'm sure he wasn't the perfect father. It was probably difficult to be, considering he spent so much time on the road and in front of movie cameras. But he did recently get his daughter a job with wrestling outfit TNA. And getting your daughter a lucrative job isn't something a bad father would do.
