Howard: Phil Neville a true leader for Everton
Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has praised the professionalism and leadership of Toffees captain Phil Neville, who made his 300th appearance for the club on Sunday.

The milestone came against the veteran's former team, Manchester United, for whom the 36-year-old has also amassed more than 300 appearances, making him the only current Premier League player to have reached the landmark for two separate clubs.

American shotstopper Howard was full of praise for Neville's achievements and lauded the example that the Everton captain – whose contract is set to expire at the end of the year – has set during his eight years at Goodison Park.

"Any time a true professional and a leader can get a landmark appearance like that it's special, and I certainly applaud him and look to him for advice," Howard told the Toffees' official website. "I think you always respect your captain and you look to him, ultimately for leadership day-in and day-out and not just during 300 appearances, which is a fantastic achievement.
"He's a guy who's comes in every day, who comes to work with his lunch pail and hard hat and gets things done. That's what a leader does, he shows up every day and he lets everyone know he's right on top of things. It's fantastic."
