Report: Howard meets with Rockets, Hawks, Warriors
When Dwight Howard met with a delegation from the Houston Rockets on Sunday night in Los Angeles, Howard's questions centered around where the Rockets would add another free agent star to play with him and James Harden, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Others from the Rockets involved in the meeting were forwards Harden and Chandler Parsons. general manager Daryl Morey and coach Kevin McHale, along with Rocket legends Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon, who has worked with Howard for several years during the offseason.
Yao Ming, another former Rocket superstar center, was connected to the meeting from China via Skype, and spoke to Howard about his experiences with Houston.
On Monday afternoon, Howard met with representatives of the Atlanta Hawks, and later Monday, Howard spoke with Golden State Warriors officials, according to ESPN.com.
Hawks general manager Danny Ferry and new Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer met with Howard in Los Angeles. Ferry told ESPN's Shelley Smith the meeting went "well," but had no other comment.
The Warriors are considered a long shot in the Howard sweepstakes.
Much of the focus was on the meeting with the Rockets.
McHale handled the questions about the team's potential and how Howard would be used in a retooled offense.
Morey discussed plans moving forward when he was asked about how the Rockets would position themselves to be able to offer another max contract to an available star player.
The Rockets were scheduled to meet on Monday with 6-9 free agent forward Josh Smith, who probably would fit the bill for Howard as another star to team with him and Harden.
Meanwhile, the Lakers' attempt to retain Howard reportedly featured some star power. According to ESPNLosAngeles.com, actor Jack Nicholson spoke on the phone with Howard, asking the center to re-sign with his favorite team.
