Houston Baptist tops Utah Valley 76-74 in 2 OTs

CHICAGO (AP) -- Rob Lewis scored 24 points, and Art Bernardi had 17 points and 12 rebounds to help Houston Baptist beat Utah Valley 76-74 in double overtime Thursday in the first round of the Great West Conference tournament.

Lewis had four 3-pointers, including one with 2 seconds remaining to give Houston Baptist the win. Marcel Smith scored 18 points for No. 4 seed Houston Baptist (13-16).

The score was tied at 27 at halftime and at 55 at the end of regulation. The first OT ended with a 64 tie.

No. 5 seed Utah Valley shot 50 percent from the field for the game, while Houston Baptist shot 43.9 percent. Houston Baptist outrebounded Utah Valley 35-33.

Nick Thompson led Utah Valley (14-18) with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Jason Johnson had 20 points, Ben Aird scored 19 and Holton Hunsaker added 10.

Houston Baptist will play top-seeded NJIT on Friday.
