Homer Bailey set for season-ending surgry

Reds pitcher Homer Bailey has opted for surgery to repair a torn flexor mass tendon in his right elbow, the team announced Thursday.

Bailey, who has not pitched since early August as a result of the injury, will have the surgery Friday, which will end his season. However, he is expected to be recovered and ready to pitch by the start of spring training, the team says.

Bailey finished the season with a 3.71 ERA in 145 2/3 innings of work, but had been pitching better after a rough start. He had allowed just five runs in 28 innings after the break before being shut down.
