Dose: Strasburg Stellar

View photo

Drew Silva examines Stephen Strasburg's big night, the return of Matt Holliday, and more in Wednesday's …

With many starting pitchers -- even some of the great ones -- fantasy owners have to be a little wary of plugging them into the lineup for starts on the road. Some players are just completely different guys away from their home parks.

Stephen Strasburg is not one of them.

The 24-year-old phenom is off to typically strong start this year, with a 3.16 ERA through five starts (although he's 1-4 thanks to a lack of support). As long as he's healthy, Strasburg is about as reliable as it gets for a fantasy starter, and that's true whether he's at home or on the road. In his young career, his ERA at Nationals Park (2.91) is nearly identical to his mark elsewhere (2.98). Although he's had a greater tendency to issue walks in road starts, he's also been more strikeout proficient (10.2 K/9 home vs. 11.7 away) and much less homer-prone (0.97 HR/9 home vs. 0.50 away).

You could make a case that, from a fantasy perspective, Strasburg has actually been a better bet on the road than at home, so his owners should be plenty excited to see him lined up for starts in Atlanta and Pittsburgh next week. He's one of many highly attractive two-start options in the National League, joining Adam Wainwright, Jaime Garcia, Wandy Rodriguez, Mat Latos and others.

Streamer City

The following pitchers are generally available in over 50 percent of fantasy leagues and have favorable match-ups this week:

American League

Tuesday, 4/30: Brandon Maurer vs. BAL

The rookie followed up a rocky start to the season with back-to-back quality starts against a potent Texas offense. He's worth a look in this home match-up against a more favorable lineup.

Thursday, 5/2: Roberto Hernandez

His results have been a little uneven, but Hernandez is racking up tons of strikeouts early on in his reclamation tour, which makes him intriguing.

National League

Tuesday, 4/30: Bronson Arroyo @ STL

The veteran right-hander has been rather excellent early on, consistency pitching deep into games while flashing exceptional command. We'll say if he can keep it going in St. Louie.

Tuesday, 4/30: Jorge De La Rosa @ LAD

De La Rosa has looked dominant but remains unowned in the vast majority of leagues after a bit of a slow start. Give him a spin in this road tilt against the Dodgers.

Thursday, 5/2: Travis Wood vs. SD

Another guy off to a very strong start, Wood owns a 2.08 ERA through four starts and should have little trouble dispatching the Padres at home.
