Holy Cross never trailed but had to hold off Navy late for a 66-57 win Tuesday night in Worcester, Mass.

The Crusaders were led by Justin Burrell's 14 points along with Dave Dudzinski's 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Midshipmen (7-18, 1-8 Patriot League) got a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds from Worth Smith, and 14 points from Brandon Venturini.

Holy Cross (11-13, 3-6) raced out to an early 11-2 advantage in the first 3:33 of the game and led by as many as 18 points in the first half, going into intermission with a 43-28 advantage.

In the second half, the Midshipmen clamped down on the Crusaders and got back in the game, opening with a 10-0 run and closing to within five points on a Venturini 3-pointer at the 17:10 mark.

The Midshipmen cut the lead to 49-45 with 12:56 remaining, but the Crusaders, fueled by two 3-pointers, went on an 8-0 run to get their lead back up to 12.

Still, Navy battled to the end, getting the Crusaders' lead down to five on a Will Kelly layup with 1:58 remaining, but those would be the last points the Midshipmen would score.

The Crusaders shot 41 percent from the field (20 of 49), while the Midshipmen made 38 percent of their shots (21 of 55).
