Holden recalled by Bolton ahead of promotion push

Stuart Holden can check off another milestone in his comeback from a long injury layoff.

Holden played 66 minutes off the bench in Bolton's 1-0 victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday, marking the American midfielder's first appearance for the Trotters in a league game since March 19, 2011. Bolton was still in the Premier League then, and Holden was forced to exit that match after clashing with Red Devils defender Jonny Evans after a nasty tackle resulted in Holden suffering a massive gash on his leg in addition to knee damage.

Holden had been limited to reserve games and 26 minutes spread out across two FA Cup appearances since getting cleared to return to competitive action following his lengthy injury spell that kept him out for almost 16 months. He replaced the injured Mark Davies in the 24th minute at Reebok Stadium Tuesday, more than doubling his playing time output with the first team this season in the process.

Craig Dawson scored the lone goal in Tuesday's match in the sixth minute, helping Bolton climb to 10th place with 45 points, seven points shy of the final promotion playoff spot that is currently held by Brighton & Hove Albion.
