Hofstra 70, William & Mary 59

Sophomore guard Taran Buie scored a game-high 24 points to lead host Hofstra to an 70-59 victory over William & Mary on Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association action at the Mack Sports Complex.

Buie shot 8-for-17 from the field, including 3-for-9 on 3-pointers. Steve Mejia added 14 points and David Imes had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Pride (5-11, 2-1 CAA).

Buie, the leading scorer on the Pride at 13.8 points per game, teamed up with Stephen Nwaukoni to ignite an early run that spilled over to the second half. Hofstra, which had lost nine of its last 10 games coming in Saturday's contest, shot 5-for-7 from the floor to seize an 11-2 lead.

The Tribe (7-8, 1-3) didn't hit double-digits until the 5:32 mark of the first half.

William & Mary fought back early in the second half to cut the deficit to 37-33, but Buie canned a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 40-33 with 12:24 left.

William & Mary shot 35 percent from the field, including a frigid 4-for-25 on 3-pointers. Brandon Britt scored 21 points and Marcus Thornton tallied 17 for the Tribe.
