Hodgson: No England recall for John Terry

England manager Roy Hodgson has ruled out the possibility of John Terry returning to the international fold.

The 33-year-old retired from international football in September 2012 after the Football Association pursued a disciplinary hearing into allegations that he racially abused Anton Ferdinand.

But a string of impressive performances at the heart of the Chelsea defense this season has prompted speculation that he could return to the England fold for the World Cup - but Hodgson feels a call up is not needed.

"John has retired," Hodgson said. "As far as I’m concerned that is the situation. We’ve got along [without] him for [almost] the whole of the qualification [for World Cup 2014], and quite a few friendly matches, and we’ll have to get along without him in the future. As far as I’m concerned retirement is retirement.

"You respect that when players retire. We move on. We moved on after the first qualification game when John Terry limped off [against Moldova]. Since that time we have got on with it and have chosen the players who are available, who have represented us well in my opinion, and so we’ll continue with that."
