Sometimes nice guys do finish first.

Cherie Lytle, media relations liaison at Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. says she has noticed an interesting trend every June at the hospital that dates back to 2000.

"In 11 of the last 12 years, at least one of the teams playing in the College World Series championship series visited our hospital at some point during the series," Lytle told me recently in an email.

Players pose for pictures and chat with patients, hoping to lift their spirits. One team, the California Golden Bears, visited twice in 2011, bringing game balls to give to the children during their second visit.

Here's the list of teams compiled by Lytle that has visited the hospital over the years (teams in bold are the champions of each respective season).

2011 South Carolina Gamecocks (champion)

Visiting teams: South Carolina, California Golden Bears (twice), the Florida Gator mascot and two players

2010 South Carolina (champion)

Visiting teams: South Carolina, Florida State Seminoles

2009 LSU Tigers (champion)

Visiting teams: LSU Tigers, Texas Longhorns (runner up), North Carolina Tar Heels

2008 Fresno State (champion)

Visiting teams: Fresno State Bulldogs, Rice Owls

2007 Oregon State (champion)

Visiting team: North Carolina (runner up)

2006 Oregon State (champion)

Visiting team: North Carolina (runner up)

2005 Texas (champion - played Florida)

"This is the year that 'ruins' our streak," Lytle said. "Neither team playing in the championship series visited."

2004 Cal State Fullerton (champion)

Visiting team: Cal State Fullerton Titans

2003 Rice (champion)

Visiting team: Rice

2002 Texas (champion)

Visiting team: South Carolina (runner up)

2001 Miami (champion)

Visiting team: Stanford Cardinal (runner up)

2000 LSU (champion)

Visiting team: Stanford (runner up)

Lytle says that so far, no team from the 2012 CWS is scheduled to visit the hospital, but the Arizona Wildcats are a possibility. They want to visit. It all comes down to their schedule. But you might want to keep an eye out for which team(s) does end up visiting because, if history repeats itself, you could see them in the championship series.
