Hiroyuki Nakajima: Signs With A's

Rotowire.com
Update: Nakajima agreed to a two-year, $6.5 million deal with the Athletics that includes a third year option, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Recommendation: Nakajima, who has spent his entire career in Japan, is expected to fill the A's need for a shortstop after Stephen Drew signed with the Red Sox in free agency. Nakajima likely won't bring much power to the lineup, but his ability to churn out walks and field his position aligns with the Athletics' roster philosophy. Still, Japanese middle infielders have traditionally had difficulty adjusting at the plate to the superior pitching of the MLB, making Nakajima somewhat of a risk to handle everyday duties.
