The Redskins are bringing back Tim Hightower to the mix at running back, and his role could be a little different from what it was at the beginning of the 2011 season. The first hurdle for Hightower is to continue to rehab from a torn left ACL he suffered in Week Seven last season, and it’s not entirely clear when he’ll return to the field. But when he does, you could see Hightower operate a lot in a third-down/pass-protection role that he performed better than either Roy Helu or Evan Royster. The two second-year backs could be the primary ballcarriers, although it would be wrong to assume that Hightower will be an afterthought in this regard. He had a lot of short gains but also showed the ability to break some mid-length runs and power through tackles. It will be interesting to see what effect, if any, the rehabbed knee will have on his ability.
