THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) -- Guus Hiddink will replace Louis van Gaal as coach of the Netherlands national team after the World Cup.

The governing body of Dutch soccer said Friday that Hiddink will coach the Oranje through the 2016 European Championship and then be replaced by Danny Blind.

Blind and former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward Ruud van Nistelrooy were hired as assistants to the 67-year-old Hiddink.

Hiddink led the Dutch from 1995-98, losing to France on penalty kicks in a 1998 World Cup semifinal. He coached South Korea to the semifinals of the 2002 World Cup and Russia to the final four of the 2008 European Championship.

Hiddink also has coached PSV Eindhoven, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
