Hernandez closing in on joining Indians

The SportsXchange

The Indians have had trouble synchronizing their hitting and pitching all season, and it happened again

Friday night. Lefty Chris Seddon gave the Indians a rare quality start, but the offense was held to two

hits -- both by Asdrubal Cabrera -- in a 3-2 loss to Boston.

Seddon pitched six innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits. It was his second start

since being recalled from Class AAA Columbus, but it also might be his last start.

Roberto Hernandez, the former Fausto Carmona, made his last minor league rehab start Friday night, for

Columbus. Manager Manny Acta said Hernandez will be activated next week.

That day would likely be Wednesday, which would be the normal day to pitch for a starter who started

Friday. Hernandez and Seddon both pitched Friday, so it would seem likely that Hernandez would go into

Seddon's spot in the rotation on Wednesday and Seddon would go back to Columbus.

Acta wasn't tipping his hand following Friday's game, however. The Indians manager said team officials

will discuss all their options prior to making their decision.
