Henderson Alvarez turns in a strong performance Friday

Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez turned in a strong performance Friday against the Phillies.

Alvarez allowed one run on seven hits over seven innings. He struck out four and did not issue any walks during the outing. Alvarez was excellent early in the start, tossing five scoreless innings to open the game. He gave up his only run in the sixth. With two outs, and a man on second, Alvarez threw a wild pitch. The runner on second managed to score on the play. Alvarez put two more runners on base during the inning, but escaped without giving up any more runs.

Alvarez was matched by Cole Hamels during the start, picking up a no-decision. He’ll take on the Mets in his next start.
