Hawks lose guard Williams for season to ACL tear
Atlanta lost not only a game on Friday night, but also guard Lou Williams when he tore the ACL in his right knee in a 94-89 loss to Brooklyn.
An MRI and X-rays on Saturday confirmed the injury, which will sideline Williams for the rest of the year. He was injured in the second quarter. While driving hard to the basket, his knee buckled. He left the floor in a wheelchair.
Williams' loss is "certainly devastating to us and to Lou," Hawks coach Larry Drew said before Saturday night's game.
The 6-foot-1 guard emerged as a valuable sixth man for the Hawks. He ranks third on the team in scoring (14.1), assists (3.6) and steals (1.1).
Heading into Saturday's action, the Hawks were sixth in the East with a record of 22-17. With Williams out, Drew says rookie John Jenkins will see more playing time.
