Georgia State Patrol officers arrested Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer Wednesday night, and the first-year coach was charged with driving under the influence and a tail light violation.

According to the written police report, Budenholzer said he had only one glass of wine after being pulled over in his Audi A8 at 10:30 p.m. without the vehicle's headlights or tail lights on.

Trooper Johnathon Nelms said Budenholzer failed a field sobriety test, had bloodshot and watery eyes and "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" was coming from him breath.

General manager Danny Ferry and the Hawks released a statement Thursday.

"Bud made us aware of the situation last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have further comment at the appropriate time," said Ferry, who worked with the San Antonio Spurs in a front-office capacity after playing for the franchise during Budenholzer's time on the bench as an assistant.

Budenholzer, 44, was hired to replace Larry Drew as head coach of the Hawks after 19 seasons as an assistant coach with the Spurs.
