The University of Hawaii Warriors quarterback from this past season now plays in the Arena Football League for the Georgia Force: Bryant Moniz. In his place are one player who started a couple games when Moniz was lost for the season plus several redshirts and transfers.
The 2012 quarterback battle so far (see related articles) has David Graves leading the pack with transfers Jeremy Higgins and Ikaika Woolsey right behind Graves heading into fall camp. Cayman Shutter would also be in the mix but his indefinite suspension due to suspicion of drunk driving probably will keep him off the field for awhile (source - KHNL).
Actually the best quarterback on the roster won't be eligible until 2013, having just transferred from Ohio State this past winter: Taylor Graham. At 6-5 and 235 pounds, he certainly is bigger than any of the other quarterbacks on the roster and is more of a pro-set style drop-back quarterback which Norm Chow will need in Hawaii's new scheme. But it should be noted that Graham is quite athletic for his size. He's also a very bright student.
Graham would probably have seen little playing time in new Ohio State coach Urban Meyer's spread option offense. The former backup for the Buckeyes enrolled this past spring at Hawaii and was able to practice with the team. Graham will be a fourth-year junior in 2013 and will have studied the offense all year in preparation for 2013, having one year and two spring practices under his belt.
Taylor Graham has Norm Chow written all over him - you might even say he's 'Taylor-made' for Chow's offense (sorry, couldn't help it). He's out of Wheaton, Illinois, and actually didn't play a lot his senior year in high school due to a knee injury. As luck would have it, he was also injured his junior year in high school and again played in only five games. He comes from good stock though - his father is Kent Graham who had an 11-year career playing quarterback in the NFL.
The 2012 season will be a season of change. While Graves, Higgins and Woolsey fight it out for the starting job this season, it would seem unlikely that any of them will be able to beat out Taylor Graham come 2013.
