Hart's foot injury still a concern for Brewers

The return of Milwaukee first baseman Corey Hart from a foot injury became more uncertain after he had a discouraging session Sunday morning running the bases.

Hart, who has missed six consecutive games with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot, did OK running in a straight line but felt discomfort when making turns on the bases.

"Today was the first day I tried to run the bases, and it didn't go as planned," Hart said. "It's tough because I want to play.

"I've played through a lot of injuries, but it's one of those things where if I'm on first, I'm not going to be able to score on a double. If I'm on second, it's going to be iffy to score on anything. I feel like I wouldn't be able to do everything I need to do."

Manager Ron Roenicke conceded that it's "a possibility" that Hart won't be able to return to action over the final 16 games. There has been talk of Hart receiving an injection in the foot, but Roenicke said it would be up to the medical staff to make that decision.

"We were hoping it would be a little better," Roenicke said. "I still think we're still going to shoot for Tuesday.

"I know he sure wants to get out there. We'll see. We'll know a lot more on Tuesday or Wednesday, how long it's going to be."

Travis Ishikawa has done a nice job filling in for Hart at first base, but Roenicke said it creates a trickle-down effect in the lineup when Hart doesn't bat fifth behind cleanup hitter Aramis Ramirez.

"It changes the look on the bottom part of the lineup," Roenicke said.
