On Thursday, April 5, 2012, the Harrisburg Senators took to the field to open the 2012 season. The team had traveled to play the Bowie Baysox in the season opener. Though the team made a good effort, it just was not enough to overcome the Baysox. The Senators fell 4-2. Though it was disappointing, the team will have a rematch against the Baysox on Friday, April 6, 2012.
The Bowie Baysox got on the board first in the second inning. It was the fifth, however, when the game began to slip away from the Senators. Though the Senators were behind 1-0 going into the fifth, the Baysox posted two runs to make the score 3-0 by the end of the inning. In the seventh, the Baysox grabbed one more run to make the score 4-0 at the top of the eighth. In both the eighth and ninth inning the Senators got one run but it wasn't enough and the game ended with the Baysox winning with a score of 4-2.
In 2011, the Senators had a good season and had earned a berth in the playoffs. Unfortunately, as the playoffs began, Harrisburg received record flooding and the Senators' field was underwater. All of the playoff games, which were against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, were played in Richmond, Virginia. Unfortunately, the series did not go in the Senators favor and the series ended with the Senators losing all three of the games played to the Flying Squirrels.
The season has just started and though the team dropped this first game, there is no reason why the team cannot recover. Next up for the Harrisburg Senators are three more games against the Baysox on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From Monday through Wednesday, the Senators travel to play the New Britain Rock Cats for a three game series. On April 12, the team will play its season opener. Starting on April 12 and running through April 15, 2012, the Senators will play the Reading Phillies. From Thursday, April 5, until Monday, April 23, the team does not have a break. After one day off, on April 23, the team's next break, the only one in May, is on Monday, May 14.
