DOVER, Del. (AP) -- Du'Vaughn Maxwell scored 21 points Saturday and Hampton beat Delaware State 73-60 for its third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win.
Lawrence Cooks came off the bench to score 13 points and Hampton (8-8, 3-0) outshot Delaware State (4-11, 0-3) 52.7 percent to 27.9 percent.
Brian Darden opened with a 3-pointer, and a trey and layup by Cooks gave Hampton a 14-8 lead at 8:52. But Delaware State came back, drawing to within four points on a dunk by Kendall Gray and trailed 28-24 at halftime.
Hampton pulled ahead in the second half on short scoring bursts, led by Maxwell's 15 points.
The Pirates out-rebounded the Hornets 43-36 and Delaware didn't hit a single 3-pointer on 17 attempts, while the Pirates shot 4 of 11 beyond the arc.
Gray grabbed 10 rebounds and led the Hornets with 17 points, Tyshawn Bell had 16 and Casey Walker added 10.
