Hairston latest Dodger placed on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a bad week when it comes to left hamstrings. Last Sunday in Chicago, National League MVP favorite Matt Kemp was held out of the lineup with a tight

left hamstring, and the team has lost two players to the disabled list this week.

Jerry Hairston Jr., was the latest to be placed on the disabled list, as the Dodgers

shelved the utility man on Friday with a strained left hamstring.

The Dodgers recalled infielder Justin Sellers from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill

Hairston's place on the roster.

Juan Rivera, who was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday with the same injury,

might be worse off than originally expected.

Rivera has a ruptured left semitendinosus, which is one of the hamstring muscles,

specifically attached right below the knee. His injury is relatively rare in baseball.

"There aren't a lot of these documented. There is one really good study, but even that

only has 25 people and it's not all baseball players. Some are hockey players and some are

football players," said Dodgers trainer Sue Falsone. "Because a full rupture doesn't

happen very often, we don't have as clear of an idea of how long it takes to get back."

Falsone said Friday that Rivera will be reevaluated in two weeks, but that the worst

case scenario is that he will could miss six-to-eight weeks.
