Gustavsson, Crosby, Marleau named 'Three Stars'

The SportsXchange

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jonas Gustavsson, Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby and San Jose Sharks left wing Patrick Marleau were named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week.

Making his first three appearances of the season, Gustavsson went 3-0-0 with a 1.67 goals-against average and .953 save percentage in helping the Red Wings (6-3-0) move into first place in the Atlantic Division.

Crosby extended his season-opening point streak to a career-long eight games, leading the league with six assists and eight points as the Penguins stayed on top of the Metropolitan Division with three wins. He assisted on all three of Pittsburgh's goals in a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday. Crosby then scored a goal and had an assist in a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday. He capped the week with a goal and two assists in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Vancouver Canucks Saturday.

Marleau also extended his season-opening point streak to eight games, totaling three goals and three assists, including an NHL-best five power-play points (two goals and three assists), to help the Sharks remain the only undefeated team in regulation (7-0-1). He had a goal and two assists in a 6-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues Tuesday, one goal in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Dallas Stars Thursday, and one goal and one assist Saturday in a 6-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.
