GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- For the first 59:24 of Wednesday night's game, the Chicago Wolves could not solve Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Tom McCollum.

Chicago right winger Mike Davies scored with 36 seconds left in the contest to break up the shutout, but the Wolves (20-14-1-2) were unable to overcome a three-goal deficit and fell to the Midwest Division-leading Griffins 3-1 on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena.

Griffins right winger Jordin Tootoo scored twice, including breaking open a tight, fast-paced game with his first goal of the night at 12:41 of the second period.

With Tootoo screening Wolves goaltender Jake Allen (15-8-2) in front of the net, center David McIntyre received the puck at the point. He blasted a shot from the top of the zone that was redirected halfway to the net by right winger Mitch Callahan. The puck changed direction again as it deflected off Tootoo, dropping low and past Allen.

The Griffins (26-10-1-2) and Tootoo struck again 2:45 into the third period as they swiped the puck off a Chicago defender's stick and returned to the offensive zone. Tootoo accepted a pass from center Landon Ferraro as he moved in on Allen, beating the netminder with a quick shot from close range.

Late in the game, defenseman Xavier Ouellet increased Grand Rapids' lead to three with a rifle from the point that Allen could not see through a screen.

McCollum (16-7-1) kept the Griffins on top, making 33 saves, including 13 in the third period. Allen finished the night with 30 saves.
