Greinke traded to Angels

Right-hander Zack Greinke, the biggest name on the major league trade market, was dealt from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

The trade was confirmed by the Angels.

In exchange for Greinke, the Angels are sending three prospects, including shortstop Jean Segura, to Milwaukee. Segura is the Angels' No. 1 prospect, according to MLB.com.

Milwaukee also gets Class AA pitchers Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg.

Greinke is 9-3 with a 3.44 ERA this season. He won the AL Cy Young Award in 2009 as a member of the Kansas City Royals.

"It should be fun," Greinke told reporters after the trade was announced. "They're a great team. I think the first month they struggled, but since (then), they're one of the best teams in baseball. (They have) a lot of great players, good pitching. The pitching staff will be pretty incredible."

The Angels will pay the remainder of Greinke's $13.5 million salary this year, according to MLB.com.

Segura made his major league debut for the Angels on Tuesday.

The Angels are in need of starting pitching due to right-handers Dan Haren and Ervin Santana underachieving this season. They entered Friday five games behind the AL West-leading Texas Rangers.
